Polish Dance Theatre is a professional independent ensemble whose repertoire has evolved from ballet to the contemporary dance theatre. It was founded in 1973 by Conrad Drzewiecki, whose pioneering artistic ventures placed the institution on a par with Europe's best. Recently the Theatre has been trying to liberate itself from traditional methods of expression, leaning towards interdisciplinarity and improvisation. It still strives to establish a strong national and international presence and inspires a dialogue with the most valuable parts of the Polish cultural heritage.
